about kristine kollasch
Kristine

Kristine’s paintings are created with rich layers of color, often laden with objects and text that may portray hidden meaning or simply help state a less obvious significance in the color or composition of the piece. The multitude of layers draws the viewer in beyond the first impression. Some of her paintings have a high gloss, candy coating that urges the viewer to touch them. Real texture and perceived texture co mingle as Kristine bridges the gap between painting and the tactile nature of sculpture. Her paintings are definitely delicious to both the eye and the fingertips.

Artistic expression is therapeutic. I hear my own voice most clearly through paint, collage, texture and words hidden deep in the layers. Using primarily acrylic paints, I frequently incorporate found objects such as tickets, fortunes, coins and keys to imply meaning or for simple sculptural value. My paintings explore the relationship between surface and depth, literal and metaphorical.”

She has been defined as a painter, a sculptor, or a ceramist, but no single word can describe the multi-faceted artist that flourishes inside Kristine. Her portfolio reveals this eclectic blend of styles, techniques and mediums purposefully chosen to best express the art at hand. She utilizes her fabrication skills in welding, clay and wood, but primarily her passion is expressed with color.

"I'm not sure that I will ever discover a medium or technique that completely suits me. My work style cannot be so defined that I limit my options for self-expression."

Kristine is a thriving artist producing fine art and murals. She also enjoys working collaboratively with other artists on public art projects that truly involve the community. In addition, she gives back to the community through her work with an invaluable non-profit organization Free Arts of Arizona - “Art Heals! Every Child Matters & Mentoring Works.”

Kristine found her home in Phoenix over 20 years ago after moving from Colorado with a degree in Art Education.  Arriving in late December, the market for Art Teachers was slim-to-none and she was fortunate to land a job with a local design and fabrication firm. There she learned how to read blueprints and build architectural scale models, while gaining a vast knowledge of different materials ranging from foams to fiber optics.

Kristine loves to talk about art and share her philosophies, styles and meaning. Contact Kristine at KKollasch@cox.net or 602-361-7991.
